Homegrown Moorestown embraces the fall season with Scarecrows on Main, celebrating its second year! Join us for a community event embracing community participation, and a little friendly competition as we bring Main Street to life with one-of-a-kind scarecrow displays.

what you need to know to participate
Join us in turning Main Street into a vibrant celebration filled with creativity, community spirit, and seasonal charm.
The contest is open to all ages- and participants can enter as individuals, families, clubs, groups of friends, youth groups, or service organizations. Businesses also have a special opportunity to participate and support these contestants!
Contest Rules:

This is a family-friendly event, so scarecrows should be humorous, lovable, and whimsical—but not frightening or distasteful. Homegrown Moorestown reserves the right to disqualify any entries that are not appropriate for a family-friendly event. All scarecrows must be created with good taste and in the spirit of fun for all ages.

The typical scarecrow starts with a 2x4 piece of lumber for the body and a dowel or broomstick for the arms.

Homegrown Moorestown will provide a hay bale (roughly 17’’ deep and 30 inches in length as a base for your scarecrow and two ties (pieces of twine) for each contestant to secure their scarecrow to the light post. This should be done at the scarecrow’s neck and waist.

If your scarecrow requires additional rope or wire to properly position and secure your scarecrow- you must use only the materials previously approved (if you have a material you think is safe to use and is not on our list, please email us at homegrownmoorestown@gmail.com)

Additional props are permitted that fit within the size parameters of each display. Homegrown Moorestown is not responsible for damaged scarecrows or props.

Size: Maximum height of scarecrow is 7 ft.; scarecrow with props cannot exceed more than 2 ft. on each side of light post -total width of the display not to exceed a total of 3.5 ft.

Materials must be firmly attached to the scarecrow so that it can stand up to the sun. wind, and rain.

Scarecrows will be mounted to designated lightpole along Main Street’s business district.

All entries must be in place and a picture sent to Homegrown Moorestown by midnight on November 10th.

We recommend that you check on your scarecrow periodically to make sure it remains in presentable condition.

No political statements are permitted.

Scarecrows may be retrieved beginning November 22nd
-
Contestants are responsible for removing their scarecrows by Saturday November 28th
-
Any scarecrow material left after November 28th will be discarded. Please remove any items of personal or sentimental value.
